ADVOCACY, COMMUNICATION, AND SOCIAL MOBILIZATION (ACSM) COMPONENT
The ACSM component is charged with the responsibility of supporting NASCP to mobilize political commitment and resources for HIV/AIDS program implementation. Through effective stakeholder engagement, the component aims to enable effective and collective action to achieve increased HIV prevention and epidemic control. It is also responsible for bringing positive change in knowledge, attitude and practices in relation to HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, and STIs. Furthermore, through community mobilization, the component aims to motivate decision makers to accept new values, ideas and practices relating to HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs.
All the activities of ACSM are implemented through the three units of the component. These units include:
- Advocacy Unit
- Spearheads the mobilization of domestic and eternal resources for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs
- Works to enhance political commitment for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs
strategies
- Communication Unit
- Strengthens communication for correct information regarding HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs
- Strengthens communication to reduce stigma and discrimination
- Social mobilization Unit
- Empowers communities, and support groups to play active part in HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs
The ACSM component is mandated to carry out the following:
- To service all other components in NASCP through strategic communications.
- To ensure that NASCP’s external visibility is optimal.
- To identify advocacy target audience and develop tailored advocacy kits.
- To develop tailored Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) materials for demand generation.
- To ensure relevant stakeholder engagement for NASCP activities by means of social mobilization
