Strategic Information Department
Women’s Economic Empowerment is the process by which women increase their right to economic resources and power to make decisions that benefit them, their families and their communities. Investing in women for economic empowerment sets a path for poverty reduction and for equality between men and women. The Department of Economic Services, which was established in 2014, is to ensure that women in various categories of business have access to a full range of suitable and affordable financial services critical to withstand shocks and fulfil their economic and social potentials. It was also set out to provide economic empowerment training, Skill Acquisition Centres and Empowerment Tools/Equipment to women to build better livelihoods, earn more income and create businesses that create jobs as well boost local economies. This is hinged on the fact that when financial security improved, other areas of women’s lives also improve: they can afford healthcare, purchase uniforms for their children and are more likely to play leadership roles in their communities
